We spent the May long weekend in Comox this year. The weather cooperated wonderfully and we enjoyed the sun as we relaxed around my parents’ house. We ventured into town a few times, but we were happy to spend most of our visit just hanging out in their yard. Natalie and Grandpa played for hours in the sand, explored the gardens, and stalked the cats. We also played at the beach, blew bubbles, visited my grandma and some friends, and stopped at Benino Gelato for gelato and coffees.
We had a great weekend, but it sure didn’t start out well. We woke early Saturday morning so that we could catch the 7:45am ferry to the Island. We woke the girls just before we ready to leave, and discovered that Jasmine had thrown up in the night. She wasn’t otherwise sick and seemed pretty happy, so off we went. By the time we got to Comox she had gone through her entire weekend’s wardrobe, and we had to wash and disinfect the car seat. A vomiting baby, ferries and highway driving do not mix. :( Jasmine was sick for most of the trip, but thankfully the worst was over after the first day.
The weekend fell between both my parents’ birthdays this year so we took the opportunity to celebrate them while we were out. They bought an amazingly delicious Lemon Meringue Cake from Cakebread Artisan Bakery, and Christina made a batch of her lovely cupcakes. Yum!
Christina has been taking a cake decorating class for past few weeks through Michaels and is really enjoying it. With all the delicious and wonderfully decorated baking around, so are the rest of us! :)
Natalie is officially a big girl. She stopped wearing pull-ups to bed at the beginning of May and we’re very proud. Natalie started swimming lessons at Eilleen Dailly again this weekend. It’s hard to believe she’s old enough already, but one of the goals of this set of lessons is transitioning from parent participation to lessons by herself.
Christina celebrated her first Mother’s day with two children this year. We let her sleep in and woke her to fancy waffle breakfast. We also attempted to surprise her with some gifts and candy, but Natalie was so excited that she told her about them the moment we got home from the store. :) Apparently she’s not the best secret keeper at the moment.
