Last weekend we made our first trip to the Island since Jasmine was born. We took the long way via Victoria so we could stop by my brother’s place for a visit first. We had a lovely lunch together and the cousins got to play together for a while before we were on our way up to Comox to visit my parents.
Our time in Comox was great and the kids enjoyed all the extra attention. Natalie really enjoyed playing with her grandparents and their cats, and also got her hair cut while we were there. Although the weather was a little stormy some days, we did manage to get out for a walk around the Courtenay Air Park.
We caught the 10:30am ferry home on Remembrance Day. Just before 11am the captain came over the loudspeaker to announce that they would be ceasing ferry operations at 11am for two minutes and would be observing two minutes of silence. The start and stop of the two minute period was signalled by the ship’s whistle. It was quite a moving experience as virtually everyone on the ship stopped what they were doing and remained silent, many with their heads bowed and eyes closed. It is one thing to experience that reverence at a cenotaph, but quite another on a crowded ferry.
Although we spent a fair bit of time in the van this weekend, both the kids were great little travelers!
